Bernard Winkelstein died Wednesday morning, April 23, 2008 at Morristown Memorial Hospital following a sudden illness. He was 78.
Born and raised in Bronx, NY, he had lived in St. Louis, Missouri, and in Parsippany for 22 years before moving to Morris Township 14 years ago.
Mr. Winkelstein served in the United States Army during the Korean War.
He earned his Bachelor of Science in Physics from City College in New York in 1965.
He worked as a systems analyst with K-Mart Fashions in North Bergen before retiring in 1993. Previously, he worked in the same capacity for Blue Cross Blue Shield in New York, NY.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Marilyn (nee Bleich); two sons, Alan Marc Winkelstein and his wife Georgia of Temecula, California, and Benjamin Ross (known as "Ross") and his wife Elizabeth of Leeds, England; a daughter, Lori Ellen Sporn and her husband Philip of Randolph; four grandchildren, Jeremy, Jonathan, Imogen and Isabel; and a great-granddaughter, Myla.
