Guillermo Rafael Alonso died peacefully Monday evening, December 21, 2009 at his home in the Lake Hiawatha section of Parsippany. He was 84.
Born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, he had lived in Spanish Harlem and the Lower East Side of New York City before moving to Lake Hiawatha in 1974.
Mr. Alonso served in the United States Army during World War II.
He had worked as a maintenance inspector with the New York City Transit Authority in New York for over 30 years before retiring in 1987.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Lydia M. (nee Carals); his children, Diana Alonso of Lake Hiawatha, William Jr. of Florida, and Cynthia Burgos of Staten Island, NY; a nephew, Mario Pinto; six grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
