Elvin A. Mastriani, known to all as Bert, died suddenly, January 1, 2010 at Chilton Memorial Hospital in Pompton Plains. He was 91. Born in Dunmore,Pa. he was raised in Kearny, and lived in Roseland and Essex Fells before coming to Montville Township 21 years ago. Mr. Mastriani served in the United States Army during World War II. He earned his BS in engineering from the Newark College of Engineering in 1947. Mr. Mastriani founded and owned the Arrow Converting Equipment Corporation in Fairfield for 26 years before selling the firm. He later founded Bert Mastriani and Company in Montville which he ran until his retirement in 1989. During his tenure, he held many U.S. Patents in the field of engineering. He was preceded in death by his daughter Elaine Mastriani. Survivors include his loving wife of 67 years, Nancy (nee Cerrato); two sons, Robert E. Mastriani and his wife Judith of Long Valley, and John M. Mastriani and his wife Linda of Sparta; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. At the family's request, all arrangements will be private. Friends are invited to make a memorial gift to their own favorite charity in Bert's memory.
