Obituary of PATRICK THOMAS SHARKEY SR.

Patrick Thomas Sharkey Sr. died suddenly, Monday, Febuary 1, 2010, peacefully in his sleep at his home in Parsippany. He was 65. Born and raised in Newark, he had been a resident of Parsippany for the last 40 years. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Vietnam War. Mr. Sharkey was an operating engineer with NJ Transit, Local #68 of Harrison for many years, retiring three years ago. Previously, he worked in the same capacity with Abraham & Strauss Co. in Paramus. Mr. Sharkey was a longtime parishioner at St. Peter the Apostle Roman Catholic where he was a dedicated usher at the 9am Mass for many years. He was also a member of the Vietnam War Veterans Chapter 779, the American Legion Post 0342 of Chester, and HOG (Harley Owner's Group). He was preceded in death by his loving wife Sylvia (Tulli) and his twin grandsons, Patrick T. III and Andrew John Sharkey. Survivors include his children, Patrick T. Sharkey Jr. of Denville, Maryann Sharkey-Braen and her husband Edwin of Parsippany, and Mark Sharkey and his wife Natalie of Flanders; five brothers, Thomas, John, James, Michael and Joseph Sharkey; three sisters, Virginia Roman, Marion Curran, and Karen Mancuso; and six grandchildren, Mark Anthony, Brianna Sylvia, Dominick Ralph, Brendan Michael, Faith Elizabeth, and Kyle Steven.
