George A. Gobla, Sr. died Saturday afternoon, June 19, 2010 at his home in Parsippany. He was 82.
Born in Mountain Top, PA, he had been a resident of Parsippany for the last 40 years.
A U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II, Mr. ZGobla served aboard the Destroyer U.S.S. Hyman D.D. 732 and took part in the invasions of Iwo Jima and Okinowa.
He earned his Associate Degree in Engineering from Williamsport Tchnical School in Pennsylvania.
He worked as an engineering assistant with Public Service Electric and Gas in Newark for 36 years before retiring in 1989.
Survviors include his wife of 62 years, Irene B. (nee Rozycki) Gobla; two sons, George A. Gobla Jr. of Franklin, NJ, and Michael Gobla of Aurora, CO; a brother, Andrew Gobla; six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
