Sister Ann Matthew Lorusso, 83, a Sister of Charity of Saint Elizabeth, died Saturday, September 12, 2020 at Saint Raphael Hospital, New Haven, CT.
Sister Ann Matthew was born in New Haven, Connecticut, the daughter of Matthew and Rose (Longo) Lorusso. She entered the Sisters of Charity on August 20, 1958 and was a member for 62 years.
Sister Ann graduated from the St. Raphael School of Nursing, New Haven, CT with a RN degree in Nursing; Seton Hall University, South Orange, NJ with a B.S.N. degree in Nursing and from Boston College, Chestnut Hill, MA with a M.S.N. degree in Nursing. She served in Health Ministry in New Jersey as a Nursing Supervisor in both Saint Mary's, Passaic, and All Souls Hospital in Morristown. During her ministry at Saint Raphael's, Connecticut, she served as Assistant Director in Nursing Service, Associate Director for Clinical Support, Assistant Director of Quality Assurance and Parish Nurse Coordinator.
She is survived by the Sisters of Charity of Saint Elizabeth, her brother in law Eugene Stabile Sr., her nephew Eugene, Jr and his wife Heather Gilluly and niece Tina Dwyer in addition to a grand niece and nephew.
Sister Ann Matthew's gentle smile, compassionate heart, love of family and friends as well as being an avid sports fan will be remembered by all. Her favorite quote of Saint Vincent de Paul, "If God is the center of your life, no words are necessary. Your mere presence will touch hearts." Doesn't that describe Sister Ann?
