Obituary of SISTER MARY EMMANUEL HAUCK

Sister Mary Emmanuel Hauck (88), a Sister of Charity of Saint Elizabeth, died September 26, 2020 at The Villa at Florham Park, Florham Park, NJ. Sister Mary Emmanuel was born in Jersey City, New Jersey, the daughter of Harry and Margaret (Blake) Hauck. Sacred Heart Parish and Wegman Parkway in Jersey City formed the center of Sister Emmanuel's family life. She entered the Sisters of Charity on June 24, 1949 and was a member for 71 years.\ Sister Emmanuel graduated from the College of St. Elizabeth, Convent Station, N.J. with a B.S. degree in Education, and from Seton Hall University, South Orange, with a M.A. degree in Education. Her love for learning led her to engage in continuing education related to child growth and development, Spanish and spirituality and pastoral ministry. Sister Mary Emmanuel was an educator in the State of New Jersey. She served in schools in Jersey City for many years. In Jersey City Sister Emmanuel taught at St. Lucy's, St. Anne's, St Paul of the Cross, St. Michael's, St. Peter's and St. Mary's. She also taught at St. Brendan's School in Clifton and Sacred Heart School in New Brunswick. Sister Emmanuel moved to Caritas Community in Jersey City in 2000; in 2007 she moved to St. Anne Villa, Convent Station where she resided until her death. Sister Emmanuel shared her love for reading with her students. In addition to teaching her classes, she also served as librarian in many schools during her teaching ministry. Sister Emmanuel continued to serve as librarian at the Villa as well. Sister Emmanuel was predeceased by her sisters Mary Raimo, Gail Flanigan, and Nancy Vogel and her brothers Walter, Harry and Stephen. She is survived by the Sisters of Charity, her sisters Margaret Moerler, Catherine Jereza and her husband Ramon, and her sister-in-law Susan Hauck, many nieces and nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews.
