Bade Mamaji (Hari Goyal) was my mother's brother. During my entire childhood in India, I grew up hearing my mother talk about him with so much affection and pride. But I really did not know much about him until i came to US. When I landed in US, he came to pick me up. I still remember everything about that drive from airport to home in Parsipanny. He had that thing about him-- you will remember him if you meet him. He just stayed with you. His smile, & his confidence. He was one of those people who will light up a room when they enter and they don't have to say a word. During next few days , I would watch him with fascination & admiration and learn so much from him. He would go about doing thousands of things every day and yet be there to help you in anyway and every way. I could sense that he wanted to do big things and he did. And so many of them. He was always very different from anybody around him. In a very special way.He will always stay in my memories as somebody with a heart of gold and a very inspiring Uncle. I have been here in US 25 years now, but to me, US is still ,first and foremost, the place where my Bade Mamaji lived. -- Sandeep Garg (son of Deepa, Hari's sister)

Mamaji was the most vibrant and positive thinking person I have ever met. He had a very different point of view, and always cut to the chase to say things as they were. I loved it! As a kid always got excited when he visited us and brought some gifts for us, but I actually got to know him when I moved to the US and spent some time visiting Anu and him. For someone who has seen both ups and downs of life and have such as positive attitude, is a rarity. I feel happy I got to see him on VC before he left, and that he recognized my voice. We will all miss you.

I would like to share some memories that Papa has shared with me about mausaji couple of times. They both did their engineering from Birla Institute in Pilani. Papa tells me how mausaji used to talk about wanting to go to America with so much passion. They both even went together to the US embassy to apply for the Visa after the ban was lifted in mid 1960s. He then left for America with limited means, worked hard but never gave up. Now as we all know, most of the Coolest family has migrated here as well. He changed the course of life of not only his generation but generations to come, only because he dared to dream. Thank you Mausaji.

Mausaji, I remember when I came to this country in 1984, you offered all your help and was there to support me. You never hesitated to pickup or drop off any one if they needed a ride.
You are among very few people that I know who built themselves from scratch. You told us your story when you came to this country with just about $100 in your pocket and how you struggled and made your way up. You never considered any job small or big. Your hardworking and go-getter personality made you a successful businessman. You were and will always be an inspiration to myself, the entire family and anyone who worked with you.
You were a dedicated husband and a loving father to Anupam, Neil and Manisha. You took pride in you kids and always wished the best for them.
I remember you taking vacations and short getaways with the family and having fun. I know you liked cars especially US made, though you owned Mercedes for sometime too.
Your body might be gone from this world but your spirit will live on in our hearts forever. Today we will mourn you in our own way as we pay a tribute to you.
Everyone felt the pain that you had been suffering for so long. We will cherish every single moment we spent with you. I guess this is our final goodbye since we never got the chance to do so. Rest in peace Mausaji, We will definitely miss you.

Mamaji I remember the time you came to Raipur to meet mom. Mom was super delighted. You were an inspiration for all . We used to take pride in saying our Mamaji is in states as you had gone then when it used to be a dream to go there. It's a great loss to the family and let your soul rest in peace. We all love you.

Mamaji, you have been a great inspiration to all your sisters and brother and there never was a moment when they didn't remember you whenever they met. This loss is irreparable for all of us. However, I remember you as a smiling person with a kadak voice and pushing everyone to do better. It was a pleasant surprise for me and I would cherish that moment forever when you recognized me on my visit to you in the nursing home in New Jersey in 2018 and said "tum yahan kahan se aa gaye". I am posting a picture of that time when we had a big laugh about small Gulab Jamuns, your favourite, courtesy mamiji who took great care of you and prepared those delicacies.

Shankar (Hari as everyone knows him) had a great life and was loved immensely by all who came in contact with him. We would always remember his smiling face. From the childhood, we have seen him leaving no chance of helping others. He was a very positive person who would not tolerate negativity of any kind. He was a great father too and loved his kids immensely. As his eldest sister and brother-in-law, we were always proud of him at all times for the way he carried himself in all situations. He will always be in our memories and hearts. Sharing an old picture when he visited India in 1970s some time and this is how we would remember him, loving, caring, confident and happy, always. Will miss you dearly!!!

Hari Jijaji was a man who will always be remembered by all, for his kindness, his desire to help everyone in their time of need, a very hard worker himself through out his life, and as a person full of jokes making people laugh in any gatherings. He taught his children to work hard, and to always believe in themselves and their ability to achieve their goals. Hari Jijaji will be missed by all his loved ones and friends forever.
