Sister Kathleen Murphy, 93, formerly Sister Mary Rosaire, a Sister of Charity of Saint Elizabeth, died March 1, 2021 at The Villa at Florham Park, Florham Park, NJ.
Sister Kathleen Murphy was born in New York City, New York, the daughter of James and Rosetta (O'Reilly) Murphy. She entered the Sisters of Charity on September 7, 1946 and was a member for 74 years.
Sister Kathleen Murphy graduated from Saint Elizabeth University (formerly the College of Saint Elizabeth), Convent Station, New Jersey with a B.S. degree in Elementary Education and from Seton Hall University, South Orange with a M.A. degree in Professional Education. Sister Kathleen was an Educator in New Jersey. She served as a teacher at Assumption School, Morristown; Sacred Heart School, Newark; St. Mary Elementary School, Dumont; Holy Trinity School, Fort Lee; St. Brendan School, Clifton; and Immaculate Conception School, Montclair. She also taught in Jersey City at Sacred Heart School; Lutheran Parochial School; and St. John School. Sister Kathleen served as a Director and Assistant Administrator at the Lutheran Home for Aged Women. In addition, she worked in the Archives for the Sisters of Charity and volunteered at the Motherhouse. Sister Kathleen retired to The Villa at Florham Park in 2013.
She is survived by the Sisters of Charity of Saint Elizabeth, her sisters-in-law Kathleen and Jeanne Murphy as well as loving nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Sister Kathleen will be remembered as a quiet and warm woman. Her gentle smile welcomed you into her Irish presence.
