I was a former contentious Student Council President, "Mr Sommer" teacher advisor, was always the voice of moderation and a stabilizing influence against the more polarizing forces working at the time.
"Mr Sommer" math teacher, in the most honest and gentle way drew out the best characteristics and talents of his students. A real teacher, he encouraged you to read, write, do math well, and think for yourself. Unlike like the current crop of indoctrinators.
Without reservation and at his own expense he understood learning is not restricted to the classroom, I don't think there was a Broadway musical score he couldn't play, he knew it
complete. How many of us would take a group of 7th and 8th graders to the Shore or
New England to see and experience the broader world around us.
Enlightened, modest, and an outstanding educator. He was my math teacher and school council advisor. I was in two school plays, I remember him seated at the piano giving musical direction, I can still hear his laugh, when I recited my comic lines.
A good friend, much appreciated, much loved. Hope to see ya on the other side.
Joseph Lepore, Hilo Hawaii 3/28/2021.

Mr. Sommer was an extraordinary teacher whose influence went well beyond math equations. I will be forever grateful for his empathy and kindness when I arrived at Central Jr. High as an anxious eighth grader in the fall of 1965. His guidance and support were a tremendous boost that truly helped prepare me for my years at Parsippany High School.
God speed Mr. Sommer and thanks for everything.
Don Guida, Central Jr. High Class of 1967
