Obituary of EILEEN JEANNE CITRO

Eileen Jeanne (McDermott) Cirtro, age 68, of Denville, NJ went to be with the Lord on May 17, 2021. Born on May 13, 1953, in Montclair, NJ, to Patrick Philip and Natalie Elizabeth (Roberts) McDermott. Eileen was raised in the Lake Hiawatha section of Parsippany-Troy Hills, NJ, along with her six sisters and two brothers. She attended St. Peter the Apostle school, then Parsippany High School where she graduated with the class of 1971. She went on to nursing school at Ann May School of Nursing in Neptune, NJ, completing her RN in 1974, where she began her career at the Jersey Shore Medical Center. During most of her career she worked first at St. Clare's Hospital, Denville, NJ and for the past 20 years she was in the Pediatric ICU at St. Joseph's Medical Center in Paterson, NJ where she cared for many babies, children and teens along with their families as they walked through what for some, was the most difficult time of their lives. She was a caring and supportive sister and always fun to be with. In her high school years, her love of sports often found her (or heard her) lamenting loudly for her favorite Joe Namath as he was tackled or shriek with joy after an incredible pass and touch down. That excitement for almost all sports would continue for the rest of her life. She will be remembered for her infectious laugh, abundant generosity, love of gardening, her beautifully wrapped presents, and love for her many birds she nurtured over the years. Eileen was one of the most caring people you could know—a beloved mother, sister, aunt and friend. She was predeceased by her parents, Patrick Philip and Natalie Elizabeth (Roberts) McDermott; her paternal grandparents, Martin J. and Catherine M. (Tierney) McDermott; her maternal grandparents, Cecil Kennedy and Grace (Wilkins) Roberts; and her sister, Anne Therese "Tracey" Belcastro (2019). She is survived by son Anthony Citro, siblings (with spouses): Mary "Lynne" McDermott (Gerald) Giambrone, Philip T. (Betsy) McDermott, Maureen G. McDermott, Kathleen M. Eastman, James K. McDermott, Elizabeth "Jane" (Len) Contarino Amy B. Carter and widow of Tracey, Douglas Belcastro. Nieces and nephews, Catherine. Colleen, Amanda, Josiah, Joseph, Rebekah, Natalie, Hannah, Noah, Leneah and seven great nephews. The Visitation and Funeral Service will be held privately at invitation of the family.
