Providencia Mayens (nee Velez) passed away Sunday evening, August 22, 2021 at Morristown Medical Center. She was 78. Born in New York, NY she was raised in Bronx, NY and had been a resident of Fort Lee and Bergenfield, NJ before coming to Parsippany, NJ over 25 years ago. Mrs. Mayens had been a bookkeeper with the Empire Mutual Life Insurance Co of New York, NY for 30 years. She subsequently worked as a school aide at the Lake Hiawatha School. She was preceded in death by her husband, Reynold Mayens; as well as her three siblings, Fernando Velez Jr., Joseph Yanez, and Clara Velez. Survivors include her two loving children, Linda A. Gohn and her husband Philip of Parsippany, and Reynold Mayens Jr. and his wife, Susie of Florida; her dear cousin Joe Montalvo and his wife, Pat; six grandchildren, Reynold Andrew Mayens, Yosie Mayens, Hailey Gohn, Skylar Gohn, Philip Gohn and Dean Gohn, and two great-grandchildren, Eric Jones and Holly Mayens. In lieu of flowers, the family would be grateful for memorial gifts to the Alzheimer's Association. (www.alz.org/donate)
