Obituary of SISTER GABRIEL MARY DONAHUE

Sister Gabriel Mary Donahue, 96, a Sister of Charity of Saint Elizabeth, died September 24, 2021, at Morristown Medical Center, Morristown, NJ. Sister Gabriel Mary was born in Union City, New Jersey, the daughter of John and Margaret (Kustner) Donahue. She entered the Sisters of Charity on October 2, 1948 and was a member for 73 years. Sister Gabriel Mary received a B.A. in Mathematics from the College of St. Elizabeth, Morristown, New Jersey and an M.S. in Mathematics from the University of Notre Dame, South Bend, Indiana. She received a Ph.D. in Mathematics Education from New York University, New York, NY. Sister Gabriel Mary was a lifelong educator in New Jersey. She began her teaching ministry at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament School in East Orange, NJ and then served at the Academy of Saint Aloysius in Jersey City, NJ. Sister Gabriel Mary served at College of St. Elizabeth, Morristown for more than 40 years, as a Professor of Mathematics and later as Advisor to Undergraduate students. Sister Gabriel Mary also served as a mentor to mathematics teachers. Her gentle presence was a blessing to all who knew her. Following retirement from Saint Elizabeth's, Sister Gabriel Mary volunteered in the Sisters of Charity Finance Office until her 95th birthday. Sister Gabriel was predeceased by her brother, John J. Donahue, her sister, Dorothy A. Donahue, and her cousin Barbara Ottina. She is survived by the Sisters of Charity and her nephew Paul D. Donahue.
