Obituary of RUTH SHAFFER

Ruth (Seigal) Shaffer passed away Friday evening, October 15, 2021 at her Montville, NJ home. She was 89. Ruth was born in Kingston, NY on February 2nd, 1932 to Charles and Lillian Seigal. She grew up in Brooklyn and graduated from James Madison High School. She met Jack Shaffer on a blind date and they were married less than a year later. Together they had five children: Merryl, David (Terry), Daniel (Margaret), Douglas (Beth) and Dennis (Rosalee). Ruth and Jack also have 15 grandchildren and 8 great - grandchildren. The family moved to Parsippany, New Jersey in 1967. Ruth valued education and attended Fairleigh Dickenson University, graduating at the age of 48. She was an avid reader, bridge player, and creative at needlepoint and knitting. She loved spending time and playing games with her grandchildren. Ruth found golf addictive and amusing. She volunteered at Hospice of Morris County. She was the foundation of the family, helping Jack build Shaffer Steel into a successful business while always having the time for her children. Ruth also had a great laugh, which would make other people laugh, and that would cause her to laugh even louder. The love of her life was always Jack. Together they celebrated 67 years of marriage and filled their home with love and laughter. She will always remain in our hearts. Ruth will be laid to rest on Monday at 2:00 in a private ceremony at Cedar Park Cemetery.
