Obituary of SISTER KATHERINE CARROLL

Sister Katherine Carroll, 91, a Sister of Charity of St. Elizabeth, died Saturday, January 12, 2013 at St. Anne Villa in Convent Station. Born in Jersey City, NJ, she was the daughter of the late William and Mary (Mullaney) Carroll. She entered the Sisters of Charity on September 8, 1940 and was a member for 72 years. Sister Katherine graduated from the College of St. Elizabeth, Convent Station with a B.A. degree in education and from Jersey City State College, Jersey City with an M.A. in reading. She was an educator in the State of New Jersey. She served as a teacher at Holy Trinity Elementary School, Westfield; Academy of the Sacred Heart, Hoboken; St. John School, Paterson; and St. Paul of the Cross School, Jersey City. Sister Katherine was a principal at St. Augustine School, Union City; St. Vincent Martyr School, Madison; and at Corpus Christi School, Hasbrouck Heights. She then served as secretary at St. Matthew School, Ridgefield and librarian and secretary at St. Augustine School, Union City. She retired to St. Anne Villa in Convent Station in 2001 where she resided until her death. She is survived by the Sisters of Charity; her sister-in-law, Sally Carroll; nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that contributions be made to the Sisters of Charity Development Fund, P.O. Box 476 Convent Station, NJ 07961.
