Obituary of Charlotte Frances Manning

Please share a memory of Charlotte to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Charlotte Manning passed away early Thursday, October 26, 2023 at The Oaks in Denville. She was born in Brooklyn, New York, on December 27, 1926, the only child of Charlotte and Charles Fick, both Brooklyn natives. She was a member of "The Greatest Generation," coming of age as WWII was ending.

She graduated from Baldwin High School in 1945 and went on to nurse's training, one of the few career paths open to women of her day. While in nurse's training in Southampton, New York, she met the love of her life, her husband – Thomas Daniel Manning. They were married for 64 years.

The Mannings settled in Baldwin, New York where they raised their three daughters. Together they enjoyed boating, the beach, golf, bridge and socializing with friends. Charlotte was an avid bridge player, a game she learned at her father's knee. She was a natural and winning came easily!

In retirement, they moved to Mountain Lakes, New Jersey, to be able to participate in the lives of their 3 grandchildren. It didn't take long for Tom and Charlotte to become Lakers, regularly attending swim meets, lacrosse and soccer games, cheering on those grandchildren. Of course, they also found bridge groups and created a wide circle of bridge playing friends. During the summers they spent time at their house in Ocean Pines, Maryland where they could enjoy all those water activities they loved.

After her husband Tom's death, Charlotte moved to The Oaks at Denville in New Jersey, again meeting new friends and finding new bridge games!

Charlotte is proceeded in death by the love of her life Thomas Daniel Manning. She is survived by her three daughters, Pamela Whitney of Mt. Arlington, New Jersey, Cherry (Dallis) Buice of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Charlotte Kalb of Mt. Arlington, New Jersey. She is also survived by her three beloved grandchildren, on whom the sun rose and set, Rebecca (Paul) Zajos, Daniel (Shayna Rosenblum) Kalb and Elizabeth Kalb. She is also survived by three great grandchildren, Zoltan Thomas, Ella Ilona and Tessie Tomie who have given her tremendous pleasure.

She led a life of love, connections and relationships. She will be missed by all.
