Sister Julia Claire Cawley, 89, a Sister of Charity of Saint Elizabeth, died Monday, August 12, 2013 at Saint Anne Villa, Convent Station, NJ. Sister Julia Claire was born in Newark, NJ, the daughter of Michael J. and Julia McKeon Cawley. She entered the Sisters of Charity on September 8th, 1945 and was a member for 67 years. She graduated from the College of Saint Elizabeth, Convent Station, NJ with a B.S. degree in education. Sister Julia Claire was an educator in the States of Connecticut and New Jersey. She was a teacher at St. Mary Elementary School, Waterbury, CT; Sacred Heart School, Vailsburg, NJ; Our Lady of Victories School, Harrington Park; and Holy Cross School, Harrison. She was Principal at Corpus Christi School, Hasbrouck Heights, NJ. Sister Julia Claire was a librarian at St. Peter School, Belleville. She resided at Caritas Community, Jersey City and retired to St. Anne Villa, Convent Station, NJ in 2003 where she resided until her death. She is survived by the Sisters of Charity; her sister Jule Kavanagh, Pt. Pleasant, NJ, nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that contributions be made to the Sisters of Charity Development Fund, P.O. Box 476, Convent Station, NJ, 07961-0476.
