I remember a day I spent with Janet when we were still in high school. I ran into her in the rotunda and she said hi to me and smiled with that incredible happy smile everyone knew her for. We talked for a minute and I threw the idea out of going to New York City for the day. She said yes.
So we took the bus from Pine Brook and just did it on a school day. It was an adventure. We went downtown to the Soho district to check out art galleries. I think at the time we both fancied ourselves as artists. We also shopped for vintage clothes, which was still a novelty in 1987, and went to some of the fun shops they had in the village. I remember buying a mechanical rubber hand that reminded me of Thing from the Adam's family and I walked around with it hanging out of the pocket of my trench coating thinking it was cool and arty. Janet probably thought I was being immature and silly, which I was, but she didn't let on.
When we got back to Montville, we went our separate ways. We continued to be friendly with each other. I had a huge crush on her, which I imagine most of the school did. Hell, I imagine the millions of people who had seen her on Dr. Oz did too. Janet was so fun, so bright and her smile just plain made you feel good no matter what. I wanted to ask her out, to be her boyfriend, but it was high school and I was shy and afraid and awkward in the ways you can only be in high school. And I kind of blew it by not saying anything after our all day kind of first date. But it was OK. We still remained friends and friendly with each other for the rest of high school.
We lost touch after that like I did with almost everyone I went to high school with.
When I heard about her passing, I thought about that day. And I thought about the woman she became, the healer, and the bright light I always I imagined she would be and always was. I was not surprised to find out that she was featured on Dr. Oz, and sharing her bright light in a big way with the world.
She will be missed.

I thought Janets shining smiling face was the picture of happiness. I know she will be missed by Thurman and Cooper, her puppies, and definitely by her friends and family. Such a shock....she was a lovely human being. I am so sad to hear of her passing. Only the good die young...and she was both. May God bless and Rest in Peace My Friend.

Janet brought light into our world. There are not enough people like her on this planet, and it won't be the same without her. She was, is and always will be a good soul. This sad day reconfirms the truth and mystery behind the phrase "only the good die young" :-(.
I lived upstairs from her at 130 Barrow St. for over a decade, and her presence was always a breath of fresh air. Whether walking her great dogs or masterfully staying one step ahead of the alternate side of the street parking with her car, she always had a great smile and gentle manner with her words. She was a giver with a generous and patient heart. My condolences to her family, friends and loved ones. Bless you Janet, and thanks for making this world a brighter place!

My deepest condolences to The Tsai family at the terrible loss of your daughter and sister. I have wonderful memories of Janet growing up together in around the block from each other, from elementary school through high school. We shared many fun times in those years. Janet was a sweet and kind person, wise beyond her years, with a silly and witty sense of humor, and an ever bright and smiling face that could light up a room. May you find peace and comfort in these difficult days.

Words cannot express the profound and deep sense of shock and utter sadness I feel to learn of Janet's passing. I was so fortunate to share nearly eight years of my life with her in which I am forever grateful. Thinking about her since I heard of her passing brought me back to good memories of trout fishing in Bucks County with Steve and Chieh Jen, long days in the Village with Gatsby and Daisy, the New Jersey shore with Glenn and friends, and very special times with friends and family. There are so many good memories stored in my mind and heart that it pains me very much to know that she has passed. Janet was among the most kind, generous, patient, and humble people I have ever had the pleasure to know. She never ever became angry, rather always showed extraordinary grace even in the most difficult times. Looking back, I reflect how much she shaped me and taught me about love and forgiveness....and I am a better man today as a result of her grace. My heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with Dr.and Mrs.Tsai, Chieh Ju and Chieh Fhuei. I can not even begin to try to understand your grief in these days. I pray the same grace that Janet showed me can be found in the perfect love of our Lord. May He hold you, keep you, and carry you through this trial until you see her again in God's kingdom some day.
With Deepest Condolences,
Peter Karlan

I recall Janet's constant laughter when I knew her in childhood. She took me on my first jog ever in our neighborhood (she was in 5th grade and I was in 4th), and we got chased by a little yapper in the early morning hours. I recall us escaping as we climbed up on this mega-rock which was part of someone's landscape. I can vividly recall Janet cracking up hysterically. Even though we were scared senseless by this little chihuahua ferociously yapping at our heals, Janet found it to be the funniest thing as we ran for our lives. We were terrified and screaming as we were running, but Janet was laughing at the same time! I remember her laughing a lot and being a very happy child. I ran into her on 14th Street in NYC about 7 years ago, and she was that same happy person. She was warm, friendly, and seemed to be in a very happy place there in New York. I was shocked and saddened to learn about Janet's passing. I wish her family strength, and hope they find peace one day in the memories of Janet's laughter and warmth she shared with so many. RIP Janet.

I feel lucky to have know Janet and to have had her wisdom of TCM bestowed upon me. IWD externship was really challenging & fast-paced but she helped us formulate treatment methods, stay calm, and see the big picture. I always enjoyed our walks to the train & admired her amazing fashion sense, infectious smile, stern support and encouragement. She will be missed. Rest In Peace, Janet

I feel so lucky and grateful that I had the gift of Janet's friendship for so long. We witnessed each other's growing up - and she became such an amazing woman from such a mischievous little girl. She was so vivacious - lighting up a room instantly with her smile and her laughter; always so interested and curious to learn about everything; so empathetic and intuitive that she always knew when others were hiding their sadness and pain and knowing just the right treatment to help them whether it be needles, herbs, laughter or quiet understanding. She was so dedicated, working even when she was not feeling her best because as she said, "what can I do? My patients need me and I feel better when I'm here working anyways." I miss her terribly and I am so so sorry for your family's loss. She will always be in my heart.

If not for the encouraging words of this amazing woman during a very difficult time in school, I might have thrown in the towel and not become the practitioner I am today. She had an amazing smile and way about her. Whenever I wear my Calypso dresses I will be reminded of Janet's amazing spirit, warm smile, kind heart, and beauty. Thank you for being part of my life.

Janet helped so numerous of our ladies at the IWD. She was a part of the IWD family. Janet will be greatly missed, but never forgotten. I will miss our conversation about the great places we went and about how great the bitter melon dish tasted in the Green Bo restaurant.

Janet was a light in my life, and I am heartbroken that this dreaded disease took hers. As any client of hers could attest, Janet was an extremely gifted acupuncturist whose skills were further enhanced by an incredibly warm, soothing energy. I will miss her tremendously. May God bless Janet, and afford her boyfriend and family the strength to endure.

I'll always remember Janet asking me what's on my shirt and when I'd look down she'd brush my nose with her finger. I always fell for that one. She was a wonderful, calm and loving person. A great talent. Never forget those gatherings at her home in Greenwich Village. She'll missed.
