I have written condolences for Sister Alice on another memory board, but this is my first remembrance here. The anniversary date of Sister Alice’s passing came up on my email. Now I find myself here. As always, Sister Alice, I take the long way round. Thinking of you brings back so many great memories of my time at CSE. You were my mentor, along with Sister Anne Ford, guiding me through the courses of the English Department. You expanded my mind and offered truthful critiques. Sometimes you were my worst critic. You would challenge me & force me to see I could achieve a higher caliber of work. I may have grumbled now & again, but I always had to agree with you in the end. You built my self-confidence to show I was capable of more. I truly appreciated your faith in me, as you spirited me through all our classes together and beyond. With your quirkiness, you made me laugh, and sometimes that was at myself. In college, you need these moments. I drank up the knowledge you bestowed and found my true love of English literature from Beowulf to DH Lawrence to future readings. It was you that helped me build a strong foundation leading to my BA in English. You taught me that I had made the right decision. Sister Alice, you are remembered with such fondness. I will never forget you. I pray in Heaven somewhere there is a beach that you can sit upon and read your beloved books…. even some “junk food books,” as you used to call them. I think of you and I have to smile. Thank you, Sister Alice and may you Rest In Peace.

I just saw this about Sister Alice Lubin. I was a 16 year old high school student from Boonton, NJ in the 1970s taking classes at St. Elizabeth's College. I took a writing class with Sister Alice. I loved her class and learned a lot. I am a scientist, but still write creatively. The folder on my computer where I keep my writing has always been called "Alice Lubin". Thank you, Sister Alice and rest in peace. Teachers have a lasting impact on others.
