Sister Alice Lubin, formerly Sister Aloyse, age 90, a Sister of Charity of Saint Elizabeth, died Thursday, June 5, 2014 at Saint Anne Villa, Convent Station, NJ.
Sister Alice Lubin was born in Newark, N.J., the daughter of Louis J. and Aloysia (Woelf) Lubin.
She entered the Sisters of Charity on September 8, 1946 and was a member for 67 years.
She graduated from the College of Saint Elizabeth, Convent Station, N.J. with a B.A. in English; from Fordham University, Bronx, N.Y. with an M.A. in English; and from Rutgers University, New Brunswick, N.J. with a Ph.D. in English.
Sister Alice was an educator in the State of New Jersey. She taught at Bayley Elementary School, Morristown; St. Joseph High School, Paterson; St. Aloysius High School, Jersey City; and St. Cecilia High School, Englewood. Sister Alice then taught at the College of Saint Elizabeth, Convent Station for over 40 years. From 1963 to 2005 she served as Instructor, Associate Professor and Full Professor of English. From 1987 to 1992 she was Chairperson of the English Department. Later she served as mentor and tutor at the College of Saint Elizabeth and also at the Convent of Saint Elizabeth, Convent Station. She retired to St. Anne Villa in 2009 where she resided until her death.
She is survived by the Sisters of Charity; nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, and a great-grandniece and great-grandnephew.
