Sister Maria Michael was my 8th grade teacher and Principal at Immaculate Heart of Mary School in Maplewood, NJ. I had the honor of seeing her in Nutley, NJ a few months before she passed away. I must admit she still was an intimidating figure. I interrupted her dinner, but she was ever so gracious and treated me as an honored guest. She remembered her time in Maplewood, but not me or anyone in my class. She had taught in other schools for 35 years and also been the Principal as well. While some public schools would have a Vice-Principal, Business manager or Guidance Counselor. Sister Maria did all these jobs by herself with enthusiasm. She was all those people rolled into one and by the grace of God she excelled in her work. Sister Maria influenced thousands of people in her life. Those people are her legacy. Doctors, lawyers, soldiers, diplomats, electricians, plumbers. She educated and disciplined them all (including one who did not appreciate her in grade school. What can I say, I was a fool being taught by a genius). She is with Jesus now. Sister Maria Michael will be missed by her thousands of students and family. However, her thoughts and ideas live on through the lives of her students their children and their grandchildren. God Bless your memory Sister Maria!

Sister Maria Michael was a person who always had a smile on her face, a the sparkle in her eyes, a kind word to spread and God's faithful servant. She was also my Aunt Lorraine and I will miss her. Love Michael Garner
