Obituary of SISTER MARY ANN TIERNEY

Sister Mary Ann Tierney, 83, formerly Sister Mary Leonella, a Sister of Charity of Saint Elizabeth, died Wednesday, March 25, 2015 at Saint Anne Villa, Convent Station, N.J. Sister Mary Ann was born in Montclair, N.J., the daughter of Leon and Elizabeth (Dodds) Tierney. She entered the Sisters of Charity on October 7, 1951 and was a member for 63 years. Sister Mary Ann graduated from the College of Saint Elizabeth, Convent Station, N.J. with a B.A. degree in Economics; from Marquette University, Milwaukee, WI with an M.A. degree in Economics and from Columbia University, New York, NY with an M.A. degree in Education. Sister Mary Ann was an Educator and a Financial Administrator in New Jersey. She served as a teacher at St. Brendan School, Clifton and De Paul High School, Wayne. She was General Treasurer of the Sisters of Charity, Convent Station, N.J.; Financial Consultant at ARC, Morris County and Allied Irish Inv. Mgrs. LTD, Madison. She was Chief Financial Officer of the Congregation of the Passion, Union City, N.J. She was a volunteer at Caritas Academy, Jersey City, and Immaculate Conception High School, Montclair. She moved to Saint Anne Villa, Convent Station, in 2014 where she resided until her death. She is survived by the Sisters of Charity; her brother, Leon A. Tierney and nephew Jamison Tierney, both of North Palm Beach, Florida; her nephew Robert Laird (Lucille); nieces Janis Laird and Marianne Bird (William), plus many loving grand and great grand nieces and nephews.
