Last night I awaken just
minutes the hour you
left me.
Returning to sleep was
easy, knowing I had been
with you, in some odd way,
last night.
Be at peace, knowing each
of Us did all we could do.

Dearest Santa,
You asked me for a copy of Desiderata and I never got the chance to give it to you.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts, memories, likes and dislikes with me. It was a pleasure to know you. Thank-you for making me laugh, for caring, speaking kind words, compliments and giving me kisses. You always asked about my children and I held your hand. I found you to be a smart and caring person and I am happy that I gave you something to smile about at times.
I do miss you here at Riverdale, you are gone but not forgotten.
Sincerely,
Carola Gomes

As I had promised..DESIDERATA
Go placidly amid the noise and the haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible, without surrender, be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even to the dull and the ignorant; they too have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons; they are vexatious to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain or bitter, for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
Exercise caution in your business affairs, for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals, and everywhere life is full of heroism.
Be yourself. Especially, do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment, it is as perennial as the grass.
Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.
Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should. Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be.
And whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life, keep peace in your soul. With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.

It is with much sadness that I write this, since cousin Sara's passing, Santa and I have become very close. We shared our memories of happy times and very sad and painful times, we would laugh and cry together .
At my wedding ceremony at Our Lady of Pompeii Church, Sara sang the Ave Maria and at the reception she sang Begune Begune and Santa sang My Guy. This is only one of the hundreds of reasons that I will never forget these two wonderful ladies, who besides being sisters were the best of friends.
Now they are together and singing again. I will miss these two crazy ladies
Love, cousin Catherine Ann.

To the Vagge family,
We are saddened to learn that the Lord called Santa home. May she rest in peace. While residing in Montville Santa was an active member of the senior community. She attended many seminars as Santa was always interested in learning and sharing information with others. Her smile was contagious. We are certain she is advocating for others while in heaven as she smiles down upon the family. Santa will be missed. Bless you all!
Fondly,
Larry and Debra Casha

Sal Tofano posted a condolence

Sometimes we tend to remember our loved ones from their most recent lives, which unfortunately could be the period of failing health and loneliness, like a candle awaiting to be extinguished or a burning fire in the fireplace reduced to cinders and ashes.
I want to remember my Aunt, Santa Vagge, when she was vibrant and full of life, love and energy.
Santa Vagge ( Cipriano) was my mother's sister ( Sara Cipriano Tofano).
And I can always remember the wonderful Thanksgiving and Easter celebrations at her house growing up in Greenwich Village. Her warmth and generosity that she gave to her family and her sister's family have resonated with throughout all these years.
I can remember her for being a huge part of those great days sharing summer family vacations in Monroe, NY.
As kids we spent our days together down at the lake, walks along countrified roads and picnic BBQ dinners ( with always an Italian flair).
I remember my aunt for when she welcomed us all with open arms as we all sat elbow to elbow at picnic tables covered with red checkered table cloths on the great lawn by the little yellow summer bungalow.
I remember the hysterical laughs and fun her husband, Uncle Ray Vagge had with my mom and dad( Sara and Mike Tofano).
In all those years the four of them were inseparable as they were full of life and love.
All the vacations they took together to Florida, California, Mexico, Puerto Rico, and many of the island in the Caribbean and US States and the many comical stories of their ventures and journeys together. Some would think these were right out of classic sitcoms The Honeymooners and I Love Lucy.
I remember my Aunt Santa and her love for crocheting, gardening, and cooking. I remember her joy when she showed my wife and I all the tomato plants she had grown at their house in Monroe.
I remember the funny stories and incidents that her , Uncle Ray, mom and dad would share at every occasion of their travails on vacation or working together at St Vincent's hospital in NY. And we all laughed no matter how many times we heard these stories! The time my uncle accidentally flushed his false teeth down the toilet and the laugher my Aunt Santa and Dad uncontrollable laughter when they had to explain to the septic company as to the the reason why they needed to dig it up!
I remember my Aunt for her generosity. As a. boy I would stay at her house in Monroe during the summer when my parents were working.
Aunt Santa and My mom were inseparable for many years through good times and painful ones. They were there for each other in the best possible way and were as close as sisters as any I know.
My sympathies and condolences to her children, husband, and grandchildren and all those who were touched by her warmth, love and generosity throughout the years.
She will be missed and will always have a special memory in my heart and soul.
Love
Nephew Sal Tofano

I remember my mother-in-law "mom" as I called her as being a very loving mother and grandmother. She was always there for her family and helped out in many ways. She was an excellent cook and I learned a lot from her. She helped babysit whenever we needed her help. She was always there for our family!
She was very intelligent and had a diversified career path even after she retired from St. Vincent's. We are sorry to see her go, but we are very grateful to have had her in our lives. We love you and will miss you mom/grandma.
