Sister Eileen Chamberlain, 83, formerly Sister Rebecca Louise, a Sister of Charity of Saint Elizabeth, died Friday, March 11, 2016 at Saint Anne Villa, Convent Station, NJ.
Sister Eileen was born in Jamaica, N.Y., the daughter of Charles and Margaret (Emos) Chamberlain. She entered the Sisters of Charity on September 6, 1954 and was a member for 61 years.
She graduated from the College of Saint Elizabeth, Convent Station, NJ, with a B.A. degree in History and from the Catholic University of America, Washington, D.C. with a M.A. degree in U.S. History.
Sister Eileen was an educator in New Jersey. She served as a teacher in Immaculate Conception High School, Montclair; St. Mary High School and St. Aloysius High School, Jersey City; and the Academy of the Sacred Heart, Hoboken. She was a volunteer in Caritas Academy and in St. Aloysius Convent both in Jersey City. She was also very active in activities related to the CROP walk and with the Governor's Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse. She retired to Saint Anne Villa, Convent Station, NJ in 2010 where she resided until her death.
She is survived by the Sisters of Charity; her sister Mary Lou Davis, Gilbert, AZ, nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She was predeceased by her parents, a sister, Jeanne Tate, and her nephews, Donald and Philip Tate.
