Obituary of SISTER JOSEPH MARIE MCMANUS

Sister Joseph Marie McManus, 97, a Sister of Charity of Saint Elizabeth, died Monday, November 14, 2016 at The Villa at Florham Park, Convent Station, NJ. Sister Joseph Marie McManus was born in New Brunswick, NJ, the daughter of James and Emma (Dunn) McManus. She entered the Sisters of Charity on March 25, 1939 and was a member for 77 years. Sister Joseph graduated from the College of Saint Elizabeth, Convent Station, NJ, with a B.A. degree in Biology and from Rutgers University with a M.S. degree in Biology. Sister Joseph served in the education ministry in New Jersey. She taught at Our Lady of Lourdes School, West Orange; St. Michael High School, Union City; Holy Trinity High School, Hackensack; Academy of Saint Elizabeth, Convent Station; East Orange Catholic High School; and St. Peter's High School, New Brunswick. She taught at St. Peter's for over thirty years. After retiring from teaching, Sister Joseph became the Archivist for St. Peter Parish.. She was a resident in St. Peter Convent, New Brunswick from 1972 to 2006. She retired to Saint Anne Villa, Convent Station in 2006. Sister Joseph was predeceased by her parents and her brother, Joseph McManus. She is survived by the Sisters of Charity; two nieces, Patricia Ludwig and Margaret Ewing; her cousin, Col. Richard McManus; grandnieces and grandnephews; great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Sisters of Charity Development Fund, P.O.
