Sr. Mary Michele Croghan, a Sister of Charity of St. Elizabeth, passed away Saturday, May 13, 2017 at Morristown Medical Center. She was 85.
Sister Mary Michele Croghan was born in Jersey City, NJ, the daughter of Michael Thomas and Grace Leavy Croghan. She entered the Sisters of Charity on October 2, 1949 and was a member for 67 years.
Sister Mary Michele graduated from The College of Saint Elizabeth, Convent Station, NJ with a B.S. degree in Elementary Education and from Fairfield University, Fairfield, CT with a Masters Degree in American Studies. Sister Mary Michele served in the education ministry in New Jersey. She taught at Epiphany School in Cliffside Park, St. Patrick School in Jersey City, and St. Philip the Apostle School in Saddle Brook. She then became Principal at St. Philip School. Sister Mary Michele entered the Transition in Ministry Program at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Paterson in 2004. She retired to the Villa in 2013.
She was predeceased by her parents and her brothers, Tom, Martin and John.
Sister Mary Michele is survived by the Sisters of Charity, her sisters: Rita and Tom Hodge, Patricia Enders and her sister-in-law, Nancy Croghan; nieces and nephews; grand-nieces and nephews and great-grand-nieces and nephews.
