Thank you Dad for all the memories and all the things you taught me, from changing a tire to gapping spark plugs, changing oil in the car, and how a break in a new baseball mitt. There are to many other things to list . Thank you for teaching me the important things in life for which I am eternally grateful. Love you.

My first memory of Chuck dates back to 1965 and was published in a Letter to the Editor of the Caldwell Progress in the Feb 1, 2001 edition. Unfortunately, I'm not sure if Chuck actually saw this in its original form so I'm going to share it again here, hopefully, for all to read.
Family says N. Caldwell officer was always there
EDITOR:
Once upon a time, a little girl checked her family's mailbox before getting ready for school. When she got home from school, her mom told the little girl she left the house unlocked, and this made the mom very sad. The next day, the little girl didn't want to make her mom sad, so she cleverly decided to set the locks of the storm and front doors before running to check the family's mailbox. The little girl was half way across the front lawn when she heard the storm door slam … shut. We'll skip some details here, and pick up our story where a handsome man in blue rescues the little girl. "What's the problem?" he asked. "I am locked out of the house," the little girl replied. He sized up the situation, surveyed the house, borrowed a screwdriver and hammer from a neighbor, and removed the storm door. When the little girl was safe inside, the man replaced the storm door, returned the borrowed tools, and drove off. The End.
The story true, the little girl me, the rescuer Sgt. Chuck Longo of the North Caldwell Police Department … my favorite men in blue. I've just learned from mom that Sgt. Longo retired on Jan. 1.
On a personal note: that may have been the first time you were there for me, but over the 30-plus years since, you've been there for the Plasko's many times in many ways. We'll miss you and wish you nothing but the best.

Sgt.Longo as we referred to him through our dealings between the FD and PD will always be remembered as fair guy. We shared a few good laughs and he wasn't afraid to share his opinion. May he Rest In Peace and his family take comfort that he was a good man.
