Obituary of MICHAEL KOMONS

On Thursday April 9, 2020, Michael Komons passed away at the age of 82. He died at Morristown Memorial Hospital from complications that arose due to Covid-19. Recently, he was reunited with his children whom unfortunately were unable to visit due to the related quarantine. He loved his children and grandchildren very much and asked about them often. He was a resident of Greystone Park Psychiatric Hospital in the last years of his life and was in transition to move to a nursing home. Michael Komons was born in New York, NY on February 26, 1938, and he and his older sister Marika Galanis, of Baltimore Maryland, were raised in Astoria, Queens by Annetta and Demetrious Koumoundouros, both immigrants from Greece. Professionally, Michael was a house renovator, contracting engineer, business owner and entrepreneur. He had skills in adapting and remaking himself to suit the conditions of his circumstances. He loved to play games and sports with friends and his children, particularly chess and skiing. He is survived by his sister Marika Galanis of Baltimore, MD and children: Olga Koumoundouros Los Angeles, CA; Tracy Komons of Burlington, VT; Barbara Anne Komons-Montroll of Burlington, VT; Georgia David of Scappoose, OR; and Eric Komons of New York, NY. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Sarah Montroll, Elliott Montroll, Nikolai Karas Jerrard, Makayla David, Orion David, Lilia Ledner and Justin his step-grandson.
