Obituary of DR. LAWRENCE McKAY

Dr. Lawrence "Larry" McKay died Monday evening, November 14, 2005 at Morristown Memorial Hospital following a long illness. He was 57.
Born and raised in Ayr, Scotland, he had lived in South Hampton, England, Randolph, NJ, Saline, MI, Mendham, NJ and Park City, UT, before coming to Montville Township, NJ 3 years ago.
Dr. McKay graduated from Glasgow University School of Medicine, Glasgow, Scotland in 1972 and the Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, London, in 1974.
He had served as a Captain in the Royal Army Medical Corps from 1975-84.
Dr. McKay had worked as a general practitioner and deputy medical examiner while in the United Kingdom. He later served as Senior Research Director in the anti-infective program and Director of Clinical Development with the Warner Lambert Company in South Hampton, England, Ann Arbor, MI, and Morris Plains, NJ. He then worked as Vice President of Clinical Development with Ohmeda Pharmaceutical Products, a division of BOC in Liberty Corner, NJ, and served as Vice President of Clinical Research and Medical Affairs with Pharmadigm, Inc. of Salt Lake City, Utah. Most recently, he was employed as Director of Clinical Research with Berlex laboratories in Montville for three years before becoming ill earlier this year.
He was a member of the General Medical Council of London, was a Fellow of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Medicine at the Royal College of Physicians, London, a member of the Infectious Disease Society of America, and the New York Academy of Sciences.
Dr. McKay was also a member of the Medico-Chirugical Society. He was very proud of the research he did relative to the A.I.D.S. crisis and was also involved in many local medical charities and fund raising groups.
Survivors include his wife of 26 years, Kay M. (nee McNair); two sons, Iain McKay of Florida and Andrew McKay of Montville; two daughters, Elaine and Lindsay McKay both of Montville; and his mother-in-law, Renee McNair of Scotland.
