My deepest sympathy at the loss of this fine gentleman. I have known Randy since we were students at Seton Hall University and then as colleagues for his entire career at NBHS. Randy always had a kind word, a gentle thought, and a broad smile for everyone which assures him a special place in heaven.

I read, with great sorrow, the kind words of love and admiration your students and friends have for you. I cherish so many memories throughout my life with you. As we stood in your absence today, the void was crushing. Our only comfort is to know that you are with Grandma and Grandpa in a better place with no pain. I cherish every memory I have of you and hope to convey to my children what a special, special man you were in my life and the lives of so many. I will love you forever...T

My prayers go to the Chave family. Randy will surely be missed. I can still see his smile, hear his laughter and enjoyed his jokes. Randy was a great friend, terrific teacher and always spoke of his family with love. While missed on earth, I'm sure Murray and he are having a blast! Randy's spirit will always be here.

Dearest Mr. Chave,
When I heard the news, I was crushed. As I write this I well up as my memories take me back to the early 80's when an incorrigible kid needed a crack in the head and firm words to put me on the right track.
We all respected you because you were genuine. You taught us basketball, gave us confidence, but more importantly how to be good young men. You pushed us in practice and taught us to "rise to the occasion". Practice how you play! I can practically hear you from the sidelines now.
I hope your family has some comfort knowing that you made the world a better place for so many.
Thank you Randy, I will miss you! God Bless!

I'm sorry that I can't be there for the wake. I'm living in North Carolina now. I have many fond memories of Randy - not only as my AD (as I coached both tennis and bowling during his tenure), but also as my Phys Ed teacher for 64 thru 66. I recall him steeping on my chest one day in Phys Ed class because he didn't like the way I was doing the situps during class. We had a lot of good times in his office and he always had a smile on his face and a kind word. He'll be missed.

I will cherish all the times we shared on and off the basketball court. My prayers will be with you and your family always. Thank you for everything you have done for me. May you rest in peace. Mr. Chave I will never forget that Spring Day in 1989 when you let me join Charlie, Alex, Tyler and Kenny on the recruitment trip to William Paterson College. Believe it or not that invitation, you so easily granted me, was probably the biggest opportunity any one has ever given me. I got to see what college life was all about and that made me want more than just a high school education. Thank you for that opportunity and for the lessons you taught us all.
May you rest in peace, and your family find serenity in knowing what an influential person you were to the life's of so many individuals.

Because of you, I the man that I am today. You stressed hard work and discipline; When my dad left, you became my father figure, more like an angle in disguise. I will never forget the things you did for me, especially the lectures about life. Most of all, you believed in me as an athlete and as a person. I will never forget you, I love you Mr. Chave. I will always address you as Mr. Chave, because of the respect I have for you and will continue to have for you. AZ23

Dear Ellen and Curtis-
I was very sorry to read of Randy's death. I don't know if you remember me, but Pat Annette and I have very fond memories of our high school years hanging around with Randy, Jimmy Carruth, Jimmy Clarke, Bill Rice et al when Randy was making a name for himself at Emerson High School. I remember both of you. Ellen was so pretty and Randy and his friends constantly teased Curtis!
Please accept our deepest sympathy and extend them to his wife and daughter and know that Randy was remembered with great affection by his very old friends.

My deepest condolences to the entire family. As a 1969 graduate of North Bergen High School, I have very fond memories of Mr. Chave. He possessed all the qualities that you would expect in a teacher; he was generous with his time, always had a good word and a smile, expected and accepted nothing but your personal best, was open and honest with his high school students and made NBHS a better place. He did his profession proud and his students were the winners!
God Bless You Randy; you are at peace.
