Obituary of ROGER E. HERNANDEZ

Roger Emilio Hernandez died Saturday morning, September 6, 2008 at the Valley Hospital in Ridgewood following a brief illness. He was 53.
Born in Havana, Cuba, his family immigrated to the United States in 1964 settling in West New York. He had lived in Montclair before moving to Boonton Township six years ago.
Mr. Hernandez earned his Bachelors Degree in communications from Rutgers University in 1977.
A journalist, he had been employed by the New Jersey Institute of Technology in Newark for the last ten years. He was also a co-founder of Galloping Hill Media in Boonton Township.
Mr. Hernandez was a nationally syndicated newspaper columnist with King Features, Inc. He wrote for numerous newspapers including the Washington Post, the Philadelphia Inquirer, and the Jersey Journal.
He was also an adjunct professor of jounalism at Rutgers University and was a member of the Rutgers Chapter of Theta Chi Fraternity.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Mabel Hernandez and a brother, Milton Hernandez.
Survivors include his wife Dianne B. Doctor; two children, Elena and Benjamin Hernandez both at home; his father, Roger Hernandez Sr. of Miami, FL.; and a brother, Romel Hernandez of Portland, OR.
