Obituary of SUSAN SPECIALE

Susan Speciale (nee Mycewicz) passed away Friday morning, February 15, 2013 at her home in the Pine Brook Scetion of Montville Township, with the love and support of her husband and children who were at her side. She had valiantly battled cancer for 4 & 1/2 years. She was 53. Born in Newark, she was raised in Bloomfield, and was a resident of Pine Brook for 28 years. A Bloomfield High School graduate, she was educated as a certified medical assistant. Mrs. Speciale was a secretary for special services at the Lazar School in Montville for the last 14 years. She had also worked as a special education aide at the Woodmont School in Montville. Previously, she had worked as a medical assistant at Clara Maas Hospital in Belleville and for the late Dr. Paul Simon of Lake Hiawatha. Susan loved children, and devoted her life to helping those in need. She had been active in Montville Township for many years. She served as Woodmont School PTA President, a class mother, and ran many events, including one to benefit the new playground at Woodmont School. She was a lifetime member of the Ladies Auxillary of the Pine Brook Volunteer Fire Department and was active with Montville UNICO. Susan had received numerous honors from the Township of Montville and local organizations. She was named Montville Township Citizen of the Year and Montville UNICO person of the year, both in 2010. Susan was also an avid golfer and made a Hole-In-One on a par three hole in her second year golfing in 2006. She loved to laugh! More than anything else, she loved her family, friends, and dogs dearly, as they all loved her. She enjoyed her home and and took a tremendous amount of pride in each of her accomplishments and endeavors. Susan was preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Lorraine Mycewicz, and her father-in-law, Nicholas J. Speciale. Survivors include her husand of 29 years, Anthony "Tony" Speciale; three children, Anthony Special Jr, Danielle M. Speciale, and Deanna L. Speciale; a sister, Laura Speirs and her husband John; a brother, Glenn Mycewicz and his wife Donna; her mother-in-law, Lucy Speciale; her brother and sister-in-law, Joseph Speciale and Linda Jensen; and her nieces and nephews, Lindsey, Troy, Dawn, Karen, and Laura. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to either the American Lung Association, Montville UNICO Foundation, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, St. Barnabas Hospice, or the National Brain Tumor Society.
