Obituary of Sr. Mary Clark, SC
Sister Mary Clark, SC, 79, a Sister of Charity of Saint Elizabeth, died July 20, 2022 at Saint Joseph Healthcare and Rehab Center in Cedar Grove, NJ.
Sister Mary was born in Charlottesville, Virginia. The daughter of Norman & Elizabeth (Monroe) Clark. She entered the Sisters of Charity on August 19, 1969 and was a member for fifty two years.
Sister Mary graduated from Howard University in Washington, DC with a B.A. & M.A. degree in Education and from Columbia University with a M.Ed. in Education and Administration.
She began her teaching ministry in Saint Joseph School, Pensacola Florida. In the ensuing years, she taught in Saint Francis de Sales, Roxbury Massachusetts, Queen of Angels in Newark and All Saints /Assumption, Jersey City. Her final teaching years were at P.S. 22 in Jersey City,
As a happy and loving person, Sister Mary kept a smile on her face via music and singing. Her concern and love for young mothers trying to raise babies alone inspired her to found and be the caretaker of Saint Elizabeth Seton House—a place of caring and help for them in Jersey City.
The wake for Sister Mary Clark will be held in Holy Family Chapel, 2 Convent Road, Convent Station, NJ from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 28. The Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. Masks are required in-person. Burial will be in Holy Family Cemetery, Convent Station immediately following the Mass.
She is survived by the Sisters of Charity; and Ruby Clark and Latoya Benitz.
