Sister Janet Lehmann, 79, (formerly sister Therese Maria), a Sister of Charity of Saint Elizabeth, died September 4, 2022 at the Convent of Saint Elizabeth, Convent Station, NJ. The visitation for Sister Janet will be held in Holy Family Chapel, 2 Convent Road, Convent Station, NJ from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 9, 2022 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 11:00am. Burial will follow immediately in Holy Family Cemetery, Convent Station. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of S.J. Priola, Parsippany Funeral Service, Lake Hiawatha, NJ. Sister Janet was born in Orange, New Jersey, the daughter of Anton and Sophie (Merkt) Lehmann. She entered the Sisters of Charity on September 6, 1960 and was a member for 62 years. Sister Janet graduated from the College of Saint Elizabeth, Convent Station, New Jersey with a BS degree in Biology, from All Souls Hospital School of Nursing, Morristown NJ with an RN degree in Nursing, from Seton Hall University, South Orange, NJ with a BSN in Nursing, from St. Louis University, St. Louis, MO with an MSN degree in Cardiovascular Nursing and from New York University, New York, NY with a PhD degree in Nursing Research. Throughout her life, Sister Janet served in the ministry of healthcare within the State of New Jersey. She served as Staff Nurse and Instructor at All Souls Hospital, Morristown; Nursing Instructor at Seton Hall University, South Orange and Clinical Specialist-Cardiovascular Nursing at St. Joseph Hospital & Medical Center, Paterson; She was an Assistant Professor, Chairperson and Associate Professor of Nursing at the College of St. Elizabeth, Convent Station. For eight years, Sister Janet was a member of the Leadership Council for the Sisters of Charity of Saint Elizabeth, Convent Station, NJ. Following her time in Leadership, always dedicated to the needs of the poor, Sister Janet had a life ministry change by serving as a volunteer in the House of Presence, Duval, Haiti. For many years, Sister Janet remained in Jacmel, Haiti as the Director of the School of Nursing of the University of Notre Dame, Jacmel campus. Sister Janet was instrumental in the lives of many young Haitian women and men reaching educational heights they never thought possible. As life grew more dangerous in Haiti, Sister Janet returned to the United States where she continued to support her ministry and the people of Haiti from afar. Sister Janet died unexpectedly in her home, the Motherhouse of the Sisters of Charity of Saint Elizabeth, Convent Station, NJ. She is survived by the Sisters of Charity; two Sisters-in-law, and several nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews.
