He was a remarkably generous & kind guide & occasional companion for this visitor to New York in the winter of 1992/93. I never forgot his generosity and am so sad at his passing. New York in winter is not the friendliest place and can be very lonely at Xmas & very cold (in Australia our Xmases are hot & dry, usually). His was a smiling, generous face & countenance when such generosity was very much needed. In my mind he is still that young man - time is such a strange thing. Even now, the world seems a little more empty.

Persio was such a wonderful human! And a great friend and confident activist collaborating and scheming with a whole group of us at college to make the world a better place. He was friends with everyone! Will always appreciate his love and support during my first few years living in NYC. So many fun memories on the UWS, East Village and Park Slope after he generously gave me his room. Wish we had stayed more in touch, miss him and his warm and mischievous smile. He truly embraced life. Many condolences to his Mom, Sister, and entire family. May his memory be a blessing.

I was privileged to sing in a quarter with Persios. He was so much better than I. Thinking of him reminds me of my youth in Manhattan, when everything still seemed possible. In particular I remember laughing through an Oscars watch party. My heart goes out to his family and close friends.

Persio was a dear neighbor when both of our families lived in Peekskill. His calm hand, always willing to listen, unlimited drive to do the next thing and culinary creations set him apart. I was so saddened to hear of his passing. He was a bright light.

I remember when Persio led the Tenebre service at St. Matthew’s, Hillsborough, NC. His deep voice and calm presence left me with such a feeling of peace and gratitude. Your light shined in the darkness, Persio.

There are so many memories, it is hard to come up with one. Persio was so gifted… a musician, a singer with a gorgeous voice, an amazing chef, a lover of life. His sweetness, kindness and generosity will always be remembered. I loved him and will miss him always.

This is such heartbreaking news. Persio was so many things. A mentor to me but also a great friend. He was the reason my husband and I found our forever home in Peekskill. He created light wherever he went and I am deeply grateful to have had him play a part in my life.

I arranged a surprise birthday present for Persio to attend a taping of “The Daily Show”, thanks to our mutual friend and former neighbor, JR. It was a complete surprise, and full of backstage insight. (Did you know the crew plays cornhole before the theatre opens to the audience?) One of my favorite “only in New York” memories.

I am so sad to learn about Persio. He was a kind, caring, fun, and unique person. We worked together for almost 5 years and it was the best job I ever had. He cared about team and he cared about people. He led with empathy and respect. We also had a ton of fun! Often in my work life today- 6 years later, I ask myself "How would Persio handle this?" Such a lovely human- his spirit will live on with the many many people that knew him. My heart goes out to his family- I know they mean the world to him. We will miss you Persio. We are better for knowing you. Xo

Our losses can not be measured or replaced. Finding out about Persio who left an indelible mark on peoples lives while he lived here in Washington Heights. All of us who know him will remember him always as a wonderful person with that special quality that comes from making the right choices in life. Persio lived well, it has been many years since he moved away but fondness remains in his memory, My condolences on the loss of the special person to all is family and friends, he was to us here in northern manhattan a great friend and neighbor. It is shocking to us all to hear this news. May his memories be a blessing.RIP

I’m so saddened to hear about Persio and extend much love and compassion to his beloved family. Persio was such a kind and caring person and a wonderful supervisor, colleague and client to me. I will always appreciate his passion and ethics and all he gave to this world, which was way more than he took from it. We have lost a wonderful, gentle soul.
