Obituary of Thomas Alan Heinz

Thomas Alan Heinz Thomas Alan Heinz (93) passed away peacefully at Victoria Mews in Boonton Twp on November 18, 2022, with Hilda, his wife of 71 years at his side. He was born in 1929 and raised in Nutley, NJ. Tom met Hilda at a dance in 1951 and they danced their way through 71 years of marriage, five children, 12 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. They are proud of their family. They briefly lived in Clifton, NJ. Tom served honorably in the US Air Force as an Airman Second Class during the Korean Conflict. In 1957 they walked up a path with a realtor and picked out their lot on Green Ridge Drive in Montville and there they built the home they lived in for the next 60 years. Tom build the house and Hilda made it a home and together they raised five children, entertained friends and family and many generations of children both their own and extended family and their children's friends. The neighborhood and the town grew around them and they were instrumental in the early development of the Township of Montville. They built good neighbors and friendships developed that have lasted for decades and span generations. They were active participants of St. Pius X since the early days when mass was held in an apple barn in Towaco. Tom was an usher for 10:30 mass for over 50 years and was known to be gracious and welcoming to everyone. Tom was a Knights of Columbus and he was an Election Poll Worker in Montville and active in the Seniors Group. He loved the adventure of travel and found a way to enjoy it throughout his life. Swimming at a lake, pool or the beach was a lifelong enjoyment. Tom worked for IBM 32 years. He commuted to NYC from the Towaco train station for 7 or those years and the rest of his career was in North Jersey. He finished his career with Kodak and eased into retirement working with his son at Mail Boxes, Etc. Tom could repair and build anything that came his way. He built houses, fixed cars, made doll cradles, an infant bed, a child sled, built bikes, additions, renovations, cabinets, rooms, decks, whirligigs, and even a stereo... cat houses and dog houses and bird houses, oh my! Tom and Hilda had a dream and built a life together around that vision. They have five children. Mary Heinz Philips (James) Philadelphia and now Cherry Hill, NJ. Carol Bennett(Peter) of AZ and now Grand Morais, MN. Jane D'Anthony (Michael) of Lopatcong, NJ. Thomas J. Heinz(Mary) of Parsippany, NJ. Diane Harper (Blaine) of Bridgewater, NJ. They have 12 grandchildren:Amelia, Thomas (Kate, great granddaughter Nina), Julie (Mario), Michael, John, Dominique (Joe),Jennifer, Joseph (Alexandra, great granddaughter Ava), Tommy, Cole, Evan, Ryan. Additionally, blessedwith 2 step grandchildren: Andrea (Paul, great grandsons Nathan and Davis), David (Jenny). Tom was preceded in death by his brother Joseph Heinz and sister Barbara Cassino. Tom would say, "Do not mourn me when I am gone but rather, be happy I was here. I had a very good time and a wonderful life. I have known love and joy and success and I am at peace. I will miss you all and be waiting!" In lieu of flowers please make a contribution to St. Jude Children's Hospital or a charity of your choice to Tom's name.
