Obituary of Barbara W. Tuhy

Barbara Wilkin Tuhy, 77, of Mount Arlington, former long-time resident of Montville, NJ, passed away peacefully in her home on April 17, 2023. After beating breast cancer three times in her life, Barbara succumbed to pancreatic cancer after a valiant fight for four and a half years.

Barbara was born in Perth Amboy, NJ, to Robert and Madeline (Ewert) Wilkin on October 5, 1945. She was a graduate of Newark State College (Kean University) and went on to earn a Master's Degree in Special Education from William Patterson College. She dedicated her teaching career to those with special education needs. Barbara's first job was at a state run residential school. After taking 15 years to raise her four children, she returned to teaching in the Montville Township Public Schools until her retirement. Barbara was recognized as Teacher of the Year, and was delighted with a school-wide flash mob at her retirement.

In retirement, Barbara dedicated her time to her grandchildren. She was known to cook dinners, help with homework, and shuttle grandkids back and forth to sports and activities. Barbara was often seen on the sidelines cheering for her favorite player. She never missed a school play or a dance recital, even the ones 250 miles away.

Barbara is survived by her four children, Robert Tuhy and wife Jennifer, Rachel Senesky and husband Michael, Dianne Tuhy, and Kathleen Tuhy and partner Billy Doyle; Nana/Nini/Nanny to Gabriel, Gwenyth, Grace, Maggie, and Charlotte. Barbara is also survived by her loving and dedicated brother, Robert Wilkin and his wife Nancy.

Relatives and friends are invited to call Monday, April 24, 4-8pm at S.J. Priola Parsippany Funeral Service, Lake Hiawatha. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, April 25, 10:00am at St. Pius X Roman Catholic Church, Montville. Inurnment will be at Gate of Heaven Chapel Mausoleum, East Hanover.
