Obituary of Sr. Rosemarie DiCenso, SC
Sister Rosemarie DiCenso, 85, (formerly Sister Robert Diane), a Sister of Charity of Saint Elizabeth, died June 2, 2023 at McAuley Hall Healthcare Center, Watchung NJ following a brief illness.
Sister Rosemarie was born in Winthrop, Massachusetts, the daughter of Earl and Constanza (Cedrone) DiCenso. She entered the Sisters of Charity on September 6, 1956 and was a member for 66 years.
Sister Rosemarie graduated from the College of Saint Elizabeth, (Saint Elizabeth University) Convent Station, New Jersey with a B.S. degree in Education. She was a primary grade teacher in New Jersey and Connecticut. Sister Rosemarie served as a teacher at St. Bridget School, Jersey City, St. John School, New Haven CT, Sacred Heart School, New Haven, CT and St. Mary School, Newington, CT. Sister Rosemarie taught at St. Mary's, Newington, CT for 26 years.
In 2003, Sister Rosemarie moved back to New Jersey to participate in the Sisters in Transition program at St. Joseph's Hospital. She then served in various ministries at the hospital for 11 years, most notably as Medical Student Coordinator at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Paterson, NJ.
In 2014 Sister Rosemarie moved to the Convent of Saint Elizabeth, Convent Station, NJ. She volunteered in the Development Office and was always ready to assist anyone in any way, anticipating the needs of others. She exemplified the words of Saint Vincent de Paul: "Let us love God . . . but let it be with the strength of our arms and the sweat of our brow."
Sister Rosemarie is survived by the Sisters of Charity, two maternal aunts, Sylvia DaCosta and Teresa Arruda, her sister Diane Winter, her brother Robert, and sister-in-law Denise, one niece, five nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews.
The wake for Sister Rosemarie will be held in Holy Family Chapel, 2 Convent Road, Convent Station, NJ from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 6, 2023. The Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Holy Family Cemetery, Convent Station immediately following the Mass.
