Carrie Ann Wharton Priest passed away suddenly Thursday, June 15, 2023. She was 45. Born and raised in Parsippany, NJ, she had lived in New York, Florida, Randolph, and Montville, before coming to Madison, NJ. Carrie was a 1995 graduate of Newark Academy. She learned a B.A. Cum Laude in English from the College of William and Mary in 2000, where she was a member of Chi Omega sorority and editor of Jump magazine (1999-2000). She received an MA in journalism from New York University in 2005. She was the Director of Development for Settlement Housing Fund, Inc. in NYC from 2006-2009, where her accomplishments included raising money for the nonprofit organization through grant writing. As a self-employed freelancer, she provided writing; editing services, SAT tutoring, special needs tutoring and college essay coaching. Carrie is survived by her husband, Martin S. Priest; her cherished son, Orson W. Priest; her loving parents, Larry A. and Clare E. (Caporella) Wharton; and her aunts and uncles, Mary and Paul Werner, Katherine Bock, and Willard Wharton. She was preceded in death by her brother, Todd W. Wharton in 2011. Carrie was a loving mother to her son Orson and to her stepdaughters Madeleine and Vanessa. Relatives and friends are invited to call Tuesday, June 20, 2023, 4-8pm at S.J. Priola Parsippany Funeral Service, 60 North Beverwyck Road, Lake Hiawatha. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, June 21, 2023, 10:00am at Notre Dame of Mount Carmel R.C. Church, Cedar Knolls. Interment will follow at Holy Rood Cemetery, Morristown.
