Obituary of Sophia Morrissey

Sophia Morrissey (nee Sobolewski) age 95 of Rockville, Maryland died on October 3, 2023, in Olney, Maryland.

Born in Passaic, Sophia lived in Garfield and Long Island before moving to Parsippany in 1963. She received a B. S. from Syracuse University and a M.S. in Pupil Personnel Services from Hofstra University. She was employed as a teacher and a guidance counselor for ten years in Long Island and as a guidance counselor for thirty-one years in Bergenfield, N.J.

She was predeceased by her infant son Thomas Francis in 1960 and her beloved husband Richard of fifty years in 2002. She is survived by her sons Dr. Richard Morrissey and his wife Maryellen of Rockville, M.D. and Patrick Morrissey, Esq. and his wife Julie of Mount Pleasant, S.C., eight grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.

Sophia was a member of Pi Lamda Theta, Omicron Nu, Saint Peter the Apostle's Good Samaritans, the Holy Rosary Society, and the New Jersey Guidance Association.

Relatives and friends are invited to call Friday, October, 13, 2-4 & 7-9pm at S.J. Priola Parsippany Funeral Service, 60 North Beverwyck Rd., Lake Hiawatha. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday October 14, 2023, at 9:30 am in Saint Peter the Apostle Church, Parsippany, NJ. Burial will follow in Holy Rood Cemetery, Westbury, Long Island, New York.
