Obituary of Mary D. Bernhey

Mary D. Bernhey (nee Hiltz) passed away peacefully Wednesday morning, October 18, 2023 at the Barn Hill Care Center in Newton. She was 68.

Born and raised in Englewood, NJ, she had lived in New Milford and Maywood, NJ before coming to the Lake Hiawatha section of Parsippany-Troy Hills, NJ.

Mrs. Bernhey had worked as an activities professional with the Veterans Memorial Nursing Home in Paramus, NJ retiring in 2010. Previously, she had worked with the Teaneck Nursing Home in Teaneck, NJ. She had also worked in several day care centers in her younger years.

Mary was a very social person who loved people! She loved nature, creating recipes and cooking, and her beloved cats.

Preceded in death by her parents, William and Juanita (nee Ames) Hiltz; and her brother, William "Chip" Hiltz; she is survived by her loving husband of 18 years, Richard H. Bernhey and many cousins.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation Saturday evening, October 21, 2022, 6-9pm at S.J. Priola Parsippany Funeral Service, 60 North Beverwyck Road, Lake Hiawatha, NJ. Funeral Services will be celebrated at 8:30pm during visitation by Rev. Sharon Hausman of St. John's Episcopal Church, Boonton. Private cremation will follow.
