Obituary of Nancy Helen Torok

Nancy Helen Torok (nee Staniszewski) passed away peacefully Monday morning, November 6, 2023 at Brighton Gardens of Edison following a brief illness. She was 82.

Born and raised in Perth Amboy, NJ, she had lived in Orange, NJ, West Caldwell, NJ, and Edison, NJ before moving to Metuchen, NJ in 1991.

Nancy attended Perth Amboy High School in 1958 where she graduated as valedictorian. She furthered her education at Montclair State University where she graduated sumna cum laude with her BA in Mathematics in 1962. She had a diverse career, working as a teacher in East Brunswick and Edison, New Jersey, as well as in IT roles at Prudential in Newark and Roseland, NJ, Warner Lambert in Morris Plains, NJ, and Colgate Palmolive in Piscataway, NJ. She later pursued her lifelong passion of learning and reading by earning her MLS in 1998. Nancy then served as a school librarian in Metuchen, South Plainfield, and most recently, at James J. Flynn School in Perth Amboy, retiring in 2007.

Nancy worshipped at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Essex Fells, New Jersey, and then at St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Metuchen, New Jersey where she was an active member, serving on the Vestry, singing in the choir, and forming many dear friendships.

Nancy is survived by her loving children, Peter M. Torok and his wife, Danielle of West Caldwell, and Amy T. Fuentes and her husband, Andy of Metuchen. She is also survived by her dear sister, Martha Bowcock and her husband, Charles of Edison, and her three cherished grandchildren, Aidan J. Torok, Drew Fuentes, and Anna G. Torok.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Nancy's family on Thursday, November 16, 2023, beginning at 10:00 a.m. at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 17 Oak Avenue, Metuchen, NJ 08840. A funeral service in celebration of Nancy's life will commence at 11:00 a.m., followed by interment on the church grounds. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorial gifts to be made to St. Luke's Episcopal Church
