Obituary of Rose Marie Luethy

Please share a memory of Rose to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Rose Marie Luethy passed away peacefully Sunday February 11, 2024 at St. Joseph's Medical Center in Paterson, NJ, where she had been a patient for some time. She was 87.

Born in Jersey City, NJ on March 16, 1936, she was the second of five daughters born to the late Emil and Rose (nee Hitzfeld) Luethy. She was raised in Guttenberg, NJ and had also lived in Saddle Brook, NJ, before moving to Clifton, NJ over 50 years ago.

Rose Marie attended St. Mary's Parochial School in West New York, NJ and Holy Rosary Academy in Union City, NJ, where she graduated with honors. At age 18, she was accepted into the Novitiate of the Sisters of the Catholic Apostolate (Pallotinnes). She took her profession on September 1, 1956 and the name of "Sister Anthony Marie of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and Mary." She was a teacher with the Pallottines for many years before leaving the order in 1971.

Miss Luethy earned her Bachelors Degree in Chemistry from Fordham University in New York, NY and her Masters Degree in Mathematics from Catholic University in Washington D.C.

After leaving the convent, Miss Luethy had worked as a chemist with Givaudan (a subsidiary of Hoffman-LaRoche) in Clifton and with a perfume company in New York. Following her retirement as a chemist, she became a tax professional with H & R Block in Clifton, before starting her own business preparing taxes which she continued to do until her passing.

Rose Marie enjoyed going with her sisters to casinos and summer vacations in Absecon, NJ. She was forever the "FUN AUNT" in the eyes of her nieces and nephews, who always looked forward to her visits.

Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents, were her sisters, Dolores M Stingo and Joan Ann Battle; and her nephew, Daniel Yoboud. Survivors include her sisters Carol A. (Luethy) Eskin and Janet R. (Luethy) Yoboud. Also surviving are nine nieces and nephews, Stuart Eskin, Karen Eskin, Sandra Fisk, Vincent Stingo, Mark Stingo, David Stingo, Douglas Yoboud, Deborah Bohrman, and Denise Acocella; and seventeen great-nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation on Friday, February 16, 2024, 9:00am to 10:30am at S.J. Priola Parsippany Funeral Service, 60 North Beverwyck Road, Lake Hiawatha, NJ. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00am at St. Peter the Apostle R.C. Church, Parsippany, NJ. Interment will follow at Madonna Cemetery, Fort Lee, NJ. Rose Marie was an animal lover; with this in mind, the family requests that in lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to your local pet shelter.
