Obituary of Sonya A. Burroughs

Sonya A Burroughs passed away on February 16, 2024, after a brief illness.

Sonya was a long-time resident of Parsippany before moving to Hackensack where she lived until her passing.

Sonya is survived by her mother, Evelynne Burroughs, her cousins and her Goddaughter Sarah Katz.

Sonya was a life long learner, earning two degrees from County College of Morris and spent much of her life devoting herself to volunteering for the Spina Bifida foundation, other various charities and helping to create the laws we have today for accessibility for people with disabilities in public buildings.

Sonya touched the lives of everyone she met. She was active in the Hackensack United Methodist Church and before that, the Morristown United Methodist Church and will be missed by the many friends she has made over the years. Sonya will also be greatly missed by her Avidd family whom she lived with in her final years.

Sonya's life will be celebrated with a Memorial Service on Sunday, March 17, 2024 at the Hackensack United Methodist Church, 400 Summit Avenue, Hackensack, NJ 07601, after the morning service, at approximately noon.
