Obituary of Paul Morgenthien
Paul Morgenthien passed away peacefully Saturday March 23, 2024 at Morristown Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. He was 95.
Born in Orange, NJ, he had lived in the Vailsburg section of Newark, before coming to Parsippany in 1949.
After graduating high school at the age of 17, Paul volunteered for the United States Marine Corps in 1946 and received his honorable discharge in 1948.
Mr. Morgenthien had been a Group Leader with the Maintenance Department at Rowe International in Whippany for 42 years before retiring in 1991. He was a union member and leader with the Local UAW #950 and served as president of the Rowe Federal Credit Union.
He and his late wife Anne were long time members of St. Peter the Apostle Parish in Parsippany for over seven decades. Over time, Paul served as head usher, lector, cantor, Bingo caller and weekend collection counter.
Paul was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 70 years, Anne M. (nee Przyhocki) in 2019; his three brothers, Francis, John, and Thomas; his son-in-law Joseph S. Scala; and two grandchildren, Robert Reidmiller and Lisa Calabrese. He is survived by his four daughters, Patricia Curtin (John), Mary Onufrick (Robert), Catherine Scala, and Linda Morgenthien; two sisters, Mary Grzywinski and Theresa Morgenthien ; his grandchildren, Julie Smith, Amy Onufrick Szabo (Gregory), Joseph P. Scala, and Megan Scala-Madison (Richard); his grandson-in-law, Joseph Calabrese; three great-grandchildren, Tyler Smith, Chloe Smith, and Gregory Szabo II; and many nephews, nieces and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation on Tuesday, March 26, 2024 4:00 to 8:00pm at S.J. Priola Parsippany Funeral Service, 60 North Beverwyck Rd., Lake Hiawatha, NJ, The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, March 27, 10:00am at St. Peter the Apostle R.C. Church, Parsippany. Interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, Whippany. In lieu of flowers, please make Memorial Gifts to St. Peter's Church Food Pantry in Paul's Memory.
