Obituary of Yvonne Angela Prendergast

Yvonne Angela Prendergast (nee McNally) passed away peacefully on April 30, 2024 at her Montville, NJ home in the presence of her dear family. She was 85.

Born and raised in Kingston, Jamaica, she had lived much of her life there before immigrating to the United States in 1984. She had lived in Parsippany-Troy Hills, NJ before coming to Montville Township, NJ 23 years ago.

Mrs. Prendergast was the proprietor of the Hey Diddle Diddle Nursery School in St. Catherine, Jamaica for many years. After her move to the United States, she worked as a home health aide with the Sisters of the Sorrowful Mother in Denville, NJ, and with the Visiting Nurses Association of Morristown, NJ. She retired 20 years ago.

A former member of St. Pius X Roman Catholic Parish in Montville, she was also a former member and treasurer with the Hemophiliac Society of Jamaica.

Yvonne was a wonderful cook and loved cooking for her family, especially at the holidays. She loved tending to her beautiful garden and along with her daughter, Sheryl, maintained a community garden in Montville for many years.

Yvonne is survived by her four loving children, Sheryl Prendergast-Rose of Lake Hiawatha, NJ, Brigette Prendergast-Chang and her husband, Noel Chang of Kingston, Jamaica, Sean Prendergast and his wife, Angeline of Kingston, Jamaica, and Peta-Gay Prendergast-Regan and her husband, Stephen of Lake Hiawatha, NJ; six beloved grandchildren, Ashley Rose-Soriano and her husband, Audi, Damion Prendergast and his wife, Jyothi, Brittany Chang-Codling and her husband, Jovan, Jonathan Rose and his wife, Carli, Noel (Chad) Chang, and Rachel Prendergast; and three cherished great-grandchildren, Vincent, Leila, and Amira-Rayne.

At the family's request, funeral services and cremation will be held privately.

Yvonne was an animal lover. As such, in lieu of flowers, the family would be grateful for memorial gifts in her honor to your local chapter of the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA ).
