Obituary of Sr. Carol Williams. SC

Sister Carol Williams, 80, (formerly Sister Carol Christopher), a Sister of Charity of Saint Elizabeth, died June 21, 2024, at Saint Joseph's Health, Paterson, NJ.

Sister Carol was born in Montclair, New Jersey, the daughter of Elmer and Marjorie (Sullivan) Williams. She entered the Sisters of Charity on September 6, 1961, and was a member for 63 years.

Sister Carol graduated from the College of Saint Elizabeth, Convent Station, New Jersey with a B.A. degree in English and from Manhattan College, Riverdale, NY with a M.A. degree in Religious Studies. Sister Carol was an Educator in New Jersey, Florida and Bolivia, SA. She served as a teacher at St. Mary High School, Elizabeth, St. James School, Newark and St. Vincent Academy, Newark.

She served in Pastoral and Religious Education at St. Joseph School, Pensacola, Florida and was prepared through the Latin American Preparation Program to be a missionary and catechetical leader in Caranavi, Bolivia. Sister Carol spent countless hours volunteering in catechetical ministry with migrant children through the Sisters of Charity program at Seton Center, Diocese of Wilmington, MD. Additionally, she was a volunteer at St. Joseph's Social Center, Elizabeth. She moved to Saint Catherine of Siena Health Care, Caldwell in 2023 where she resided until her death.

A life of selfless devotion, creative spirit, and unwavering faith, Sister Carol inspired generations through her teaching, missionary work, and compassion, leaving a lasting impact on countless lives. Her legacy is a testament to the power of love, kindness, and service to others.

Sister Carol is predeceased by her parents Elmer and Marjorie Williams. She is survived by the Sisters of Charity of Saint Elizabeth, her sister Barbara Williams of Barnegat, NJ, her brother Walter Williams (Elsa) FL, her nephews Eric and Jonathan (Lesley) and great-niece Emily. Sister Carol is also survived by her dear aunt, Crete Williams, and many loving cousins.

The wake for Sister Carol Williams will be held at Holy Family Chapel, Convent Station, New Jersey on July 1, 2024, from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m.. Burial will follow in Holy Family Cemetery, Convent Station. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Stephen J. Priola Funeral Services, Lake Hiawatha, NJ.
