Obituary of Sr. Mary Fallon, SC

Sister Mary Fallon, (83), (formerly Sister Francis Alice), a Sister of Charity of Saint Elizabeth, died August 9, 2024 at McAuley Hall Healthcare Center in Watchung NJ 07069.

Sister Mary was born in Boston, Massachusetts, the daughter of Francis and Mary (McGinty). After Mary (McGinty) Fallon’s death, Alice (Rooney) Fallon became stepmother to the children.  Sister Mary was the oldest of three children. Sister Mary entered the Sisters of Charity on August 20, 1958, and was a member for 65 years.

Sister Mary graduated from the College of Saint Elizabeth (now University), Convent Station, New Jersey with a B.S. degree in Education, from Fairfield University, Fairfield, Connecticut with a M.A. in Counseling and from Seton Hall University, South Orange, New Jersey with a M.A. degree in Administration/Supervision.

Sister Mary was an educator in the State of New Jersey.  She served as a Teacher at St. Vincent Academy, Newark; Teacher and Principal at Our Lady of Good Counsel, Washington Township; Our Lady of Mount Carmel School, Ridgewood and St. Paul School, Clifton.

Sister was Principal at St. Andrew School, Westwood; Our Lady of Mount Carmel School, Ridgewood; and Academy of the Sacred Heart, Hoboken.  She was a crisis Counselor at Family Guidance Center, Hackensack; Student Assistance Counselor at Assumption/All Saints School, Jersey City; St. Patrick School, Jersey City; DePaul High School, Wayne; St. Peter School, Jersey City; and Marist High School, Bayonne. Sister also supervised Sister students at the College of Saint Elizabeth.

As a teacher, counselor, principal and mentor, Sister Mary was very involved in encouraging students and providing support. As a friend, she was generous and caring.  Her family was especially important to her, and she always wanted to be there for them. Sister had pride in her Boston Irish heritage but embraced the people she met in New Jersey with enthusiasm.

Sister Mary was predeceased by her parents, Francis, Mary and Alice Fallon, her brother-in-law, Harold “Mickie” Graham, nephew-in-law, Francis Hubbard and grandnephew, Benedict Priesbe.  She is survived by the Sisters of Charity; her sister, Ann Graham and her brother, Robert D. Fallon and sister-in-law, Marie Fallon; many loving nieces and nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews.

The wake for Sister Mary Fallon will be held at Holy Family Chapel, Convent Station, New Jersey on August 20, 2024, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. followed by the Mass of Christian Burial. Immediately following the Mass, the burial will be in Holy Family Cemetery, Convent Station, New Jersey. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Stephen J. Priola Parsippany Funeral Service. The Mass will be livestreamed.
