Sister Marilyn Zaino, 83, (formerly sister Irene Maria), a Sister of Charity of St. Elizabeth, died on October 31, 2024, at Complete Care at St. Vincent, Cedar Grove New Jersey.
The wake for Sr. Marilyn Zaino will be held at Holy Family Chapel, Convent Station, New Jersey on Thursday, November 7, 2024 at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Holy Family Cemetery, Convent Station following the Mass. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Stephen J. Priola Funeral Service, Parsippany, New Jersey.
Sister Marilyn was born in Teaneck New Jersey, the daughter of Alfred and Irene (Miller) Zaino. She entered the Sisters of Charity on August 20, 1959 and was a member for 65 years.
Sister Marilyn graduated from the College of St. Elizabeth (St. Elizabeth University), Convent Station New Jersey with B.A degree in Education and studied at Seton Hall University, South Orange, New Jersey, in the Pastoral Ministry department. She served in educational ministry in St. Anne's School and St. Michael's School, both in Jersey City, N.J. She also ministered as a nurse's aide and Arts and Crafts assistant at St. Anne Villa, Convent Station, as well as a homemaker at Visiting Homemaker Service, Dover, N.J. She was part of a Pastoral Ministry team at St. Philomena parish, Livingston and St. Virgil parish, Morris, Plains and worked as a supervisor/teacher at Dover Child Care Center, Dover, N.J. She also served as an assistant sacristan at Holy Family Chapel, Convent Station, N.J.
Sister Marilyn was a very prayerful woman who had great devotion to the Eucharist, and she often shared how she was praying for an increase in vocations to the religious life. She desired to give service to others and engaged in a variety of ministries in order to be a helpful presence.
She is survived by Sisters of Charity, her brother Fred and sister-in-law Lana, as well as nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
In lieu of flowers, it is requested that contributions be made to the Sisters of Charity development Fund, P.O. Box 476, Convent Station, N.J. 07961-0476.
