Henry, affectionately known as "Zeke," peacefully passed away at the age of 69 in the comfort of his home on All Souls Day, November 2, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Philadelphia, PA, on October 4, 1955, to the late Isaac and late Dorothy Singleton, Henry spent his early years on Howard Street and later Bruce Street in Newark, NJ. Raised by his father after losing his mother at the tender age of 6, Henry was a longtime Newark/Essex County resident before moving to Lake Hiawatha, Parsippany-Troy Hills, in 2002. Henry's educational journey began in Newark, attending Brock Kiddie Academy and Queen of Angels for elementary school. He graduated as Valedictorian from Essex Catholic High School, where he enjoyed playing basketball. He then studied Business and Communications at Rutgers University in Newark for two years. Starting work early with his father and his business partner the late Nick Alfano at Uneeda Envelope, Henry helped service businesses throughout the Tri-State area. He later worked at the Newark Public Library until 1970, where he met his first late wife, Charlotte, and welcomed his first child, Chaunci. Henry's career took a musical turn as a Disc Jockey at WNJR AM 1430 for 18 years, spinning "The Best of The Gold & The New" from the 70s and 80s. Concurrently, he worked for the United States Postal Service in West Caldwell, NJ, as a letter carrier, clerk, and finally on the belt, retiring in 2022 after 44 years. In 1993, Henry met Nanette Garcia through a mutual friend, and they married in 1994, welcoming their son, Justin. Henry enjoyed gardening, playing computer games, and staying updated on current events. A devoted Mets fan, he loved watching games and attending them at Shea Stadium. Known for his unselfishness, kindness, and generosity, Henry was always ready to help those in need. A longtime parishioner of St. Peter the Apostle R.C. Church in Parsippany, NJ, Henry was preceded in death by his parents, Isaac and Dorothy Singleton. He is survived by his beloved wife of 30 years, Nanette; his daughter Chaunci (LaPaul); his son Justin; his siblings, Jean Singleton-Stewart, Martin Ellis Anthony (Sabrina), and Valerie Bowen-Townes (Arthur); his nephews and nieces: Richard (Shanna), Isaiah, Nigel, Christopher, Jaliyl, Aaliyah, Itiyah and a host of other family and friends. Henry bravely fought his battle with cancer. Therefore, in lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts to the National Cancer Institute (https://cancer.gov) in Henry's memory.
